Aizome Indigo Dyed Linen Noren Curtain [A] [Ready to Ship]

Noren are traditional Japanese fabric dividers hung between rooms, on walls, in doorways, etc. This Noren is individually hand-dyed with aizome indigo dye using only the 100% plant based natural materials, by our local Mashiko artist/dyer Waratani. The making process takes weeks to complete by repeating dyeing and drying to achieve the look.

Aizome is Japan's ancient art of indigo dyeing, dating back over a thousand years. This traditional technique uses natural indigo leaves, carefully fermented into dye vats. Fabrics are dipped multiple times, turning green at first but oxidizing into the rich, deep blues Aizome is known for. The more dips, the darker the blue, resulting in shades that range from light sky blue to nearly black.

Aizome fabrics are not just beautiful—they’re durable, naturally antibacterial, and eco-friendly, thanks to their use of natural, biodegradable materials. Each piece reflects Japan’s deep connection to nature, combining timeless artistry with sustainability.

The fabric is a quality hand-woven Japanese linen and as it is the common feature of the Japanese Noren curtains, it has a vertical slit cut from the bottom allowing for easier passage or viewing.

The gradient dye comes in two variations, this listing is for the "natural to dark indigo" but there is also "lighter indigo to darker indigo".

The Noren curtains are for preorders and it will be shipped in 4-5 weeks.
When it says "Ready to Ship" it will be shipped right away.

Due to the nature of handmade products, there may be small unevenness in the dyed results and also small variations to the images displayed in each product.
