UGUISU is pronounced [ oo・goo・ee・sue ].
It’s the name of a small Japanese bird known for its beautiful, melodic song—often heard as the first sign of spring in Japan.

Founded in Tokyo in 2009, UGUiSU offers a carefully curated selection of beautifully crafted goods from Japan—from paper goods and textiles to ceramics, kitchenware, and jewelry that complement modern lifestyles —sharing the essence of our native culture with the world.
At a time when Japanese items were still hard to find outside the country, we began introducing thoughtfully made pieces by individual artisans and small makers —rooted in tradition, shaped by contemporary sensibilities, and created to be cherished in everyday life. Many are made using natural materials and sustainable methods that have been passed down through generations in Japan.
Each piece is made with care, often in small or limited quantities, and many are available exclusively through our store to international customers.
Now based in Mashiko —the craft and mingei town nestled in the countryside of Tochigi— we work closely with makers to better understand their craft and share their passion and stories. We continue to ship worldwide directly from Japan and are proud to introduce our favorite makers to the world.
Thank you for visiting —we hope you find something special that brings joy to you or a loved one.
Arigato,
Hikaru Komura (aka Hiki)
