Kei Nakamura Stretchable Bamboo Basket

A beautiful and unique basket made with bamboo that is not woven in the traditional style. It is constructed using thin 6mm bamboo strips, held together with brass fittings. With brass feet that give it the appearance of floating, whether placed as a decorative object or used to organize and display small items, it adds a touch of elegance.

What’s particularly interesting about this basket is that it can be shaped by gently applying pressure from the sides, allowing you to change its form and use in different ways depending on the moment.

Meticulously handcrafted by bamboo craft artist Kei Nakamura in Oita.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Originally from Tochigi, Kei Nakamura studied bamboo craft in Beppu, Oita, known for its traditional bamboo artistry. After mastering the traditional woven bamboo crafting, he was charmed by the idea of "unwoven baskets" and started crafting his unique style of bamboo craft that is not actually "woven". After an apprenticeship under a master artisan, Kei established his own studio in 2022. Since then, he has received several accolades, including the Grand Prix for the Japan Cultural Award. His creations aim to convey the beauty of bamboo in every piece.
