Kei NAKAMURA

Originally from Tochigi, Kei Nakamura studied bamboo craft in Beppu, Oita, known for its traditional bamboo artistry. After mastering the traditional woven bamboo crafting, he was charmed by the idea of "unwoven baskets" and started crafting his unique style of bamboo craft that is not actually "woven". After an apprenticeship under a master artisan, Kei established his own studio in 2022. Since then, he has received several accolades, including the Grand Prix for the Japan Cultural Award. His creations aim to convey the beauty of bamboo in every piece.
