Kumihimo Silk Braided Necklace [B]

This Kumihimo choker necklace combines Japanese tradition with contemporary design, it is made with silk braiding cord and 100% handcrafted by Tokyo based artist Noriko Yuki with the highest attention to detail.
The necklace is braided in several different patterns all into one cord -this requires high skills and very long time to craft- with black and white glass beads artfully arranged  to create a timeless piece of jewelry. Style and sophistication come together to create this luxurious brown and black necklace that will make a wonderful addition to any outfit. The necklace is one-of-a-kind, packaged in a fine Japanese paulownia wood lidded box perfect and ready to be gifted.

Noriko creates unique and beautiful jewelry pieces mixing the traditional techniques of Kumihimo (braided strings) with her original modern designs and ideas.Kumihimo is a traditional artform/craft of silk-braiding technique which has been passed down over 1,300 years.

Kumihimo are made by interlacing several to dozens of thread bundles. The beautiful three-dimensional structure draws deep shadows on the surface. Firmly woven by hand, it creates fabric a unique tension. Using 100% silk threads that are dyed in thousands of colors, a number of different styles and and patterns are expressed in a single thin string. It usually takes a very long time requiring special skills and techniques, assembling it little by little.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Tokyo born and raised Noriko YUKI, after graduating from Tokyo Zokei University with a degree in Fine Arts in Painting, she got deeply attracted by the beauty and techniques of the Peruvian Braiding in the Andes and started studying under master Kumihimo artist Etsuko Matsushita in 2003. Also discovering the art of Japanese traditional Kumihimo, Noriko started studying and working with Kumihimo.

ABOUT KUMIHIMO
Kumihimo are braided silk cords and it is a traditional art and craft that have been made for over fourteen hundred years in Japan. Kumihimo cords were used for aristocratic costumes, interior furnishings and decorations, musical instruments, and religious equipment for temples and shrines. In the modern days Kumihimo are crafted to make obijime which are cords worn belted around the front of obi and are important decorative element/accessory for kimono. 


Orders are shipped from Japan using Japan Post mail services or UPS international courier services.

Shipping cost is determined by weight or the size of the package and destination and it depends on the shipping option you select. You will see the available options for your chosen items at checkout.

Returns Policy

We will only provide a refund in the event of damaged or defective items that we cannot replace. If you wish to return or exchange an item you must first contact us within 7 days of arrival by email at hello [at] uguisustore.com

Pre-ordered or Backordered items, sale or discounted items can not be returned.

We will not be able to accept return or exchange of items if contacted after 7 days of arrival, so please make sure to open the package and check the contents as soon as the package arrives.

All customers are responsible for shipping costs as well as duties on all returned items. We can not refund shipping if the package has already been shipped.

When the package for your order gets returned to us after no re-delivery is arranged when you needed to, we can resend you the package but you will need to pay for the postage again. If you choose to cancel the items, we can refund the amount for the purchased items but not the postage as it has already been shipped and is totally non-refundable.
