New artist, Mashiko Potter Ryuta Goto
We are thrilled to introduce a new artist to our store, Ryuta Goto, a talented potter from Mashiko. Born to potter parents, Goto has always been deeply connected to the world of ceramics. He has long admired the mingei pottery master Shoji Hamada, a celebrated figure from his hometown of Mashiko. Goto had the honor of being the very last apprentice to the master Tatsuzo Shimaoka, learning the intricate skills and deep philosophy of traditional mingei pottery.
Ryuta Goto's work embodies the traditional mingei style, utilizing locally sourced clay and traditional glazes. His pottery is characterized by its simplicity, honesty, and sincerity—qualities that also define Goto's own personal character. His pieces are a reflection of his deep respect for the traditions of Mashiko ware, offering both beauty and functionality. We are excited to share his exquisite creations with you and celebrate the timeless artistry of Mashiko pottery.
