Woven Textile Shoulder Bag {mugiwara}

A smaller, lightweight bag designed for everyday use, with a long strap that can be worn crossbody. Sized for carrying essentials such as a wallet, phone, and other small items, it offers ease and comfort for daily outings.

Compact yet expressive, it is a practical piece that brings together function and material-focused design.

The fabric, titled Mugiwara (meaning “straw weave”), is woven in Ichinomiya, Aichi Prefecture. Made from cotton and rayon, it uses gima yarn - fine cotton threads coated with a plant-based material and formed into a flat, tape-like shape, giving it a dry, linen-like touch.

Lightweight and cool to the touch, the fabric combines a crisp texture with the soft luster of rayon, creating a subtle interplay of matte and sheen. The vibrant yellow color and distinctive texture make it especially suited to the spring and summer season.

Due to the complexity of the yarn, it is woven slowly on specialized looms, with artisans carefully overseeing the process.
