Each basket bag is a beautifully handwoven piece made from igusa, or rush grass, by Sunami Toru Shoten—a traditional Japanese store established in 1866 in Kurashiki, Okayama. This unique item is a collaboration with kijinokanosei, featuring a removable inner pouch crafted from kijinokanosei’s original textiles, adding a stylish touch to the classic design.

Originally shaped to keep watermelons (suika) cool, this charming, round basket bag can be used in multiple ways. Without the pouch, it’s ideal for carrying fruit and vegetables, while with the pouch, it becomes a perfect handbag for essentials like your wallet and phone, as well as some smaller items such as lipstick, pens, handcream, etc.

ABOUT THE MATERIAL
Igusa, a natural material traditionally used to craft tatami mats, has unique characteristics that allow it to stretch and shrink with humidity as it “breathes.” Initially, you may notice a distinctive scent from the igusa, which will gradually fade over time. Its color will also develop and change, adding to its charm and character.

kijinokanosei is a Japanese textile brand launched in 2022, dedicated to reviving the rich textile heritage of Bishu, Aichi Prefecture—one of the world's three major woolen textile hubs. Collaborating with local manufacturers and artisans, kijinokanosei reimagines traditional fabrics for women’s wear and interior items.

True to its name, which means “potential of textiles,” the brand explores the possibilities of fabric itself and the artistry of craftsmanship. Each piece is carefully crafted in domestic factories, with artisans thoughtfully designing the textile structures to reveal the unique character and rich expressions of these fabrics.

Returns Policy

We will only provide a refund in the event of damaged or defective items that we cannot replace. If you wish to return or exchange an item you must first contact us within 7 days of arrival by email at hello [at] uguisustore.com

Pre-ordered or Backordered items, sale or discounted items can not be returned.

We will not be able to accept return or exchange of items if contacted after 7 days of arrival, so please make sure to open the package and check the contents as soon as the package arrives.

All customers are responsible for shipping costs as well as duties on all returned items. We can not refund shipping if the package has already been shipped.

When the package for your order gets returned to us after no re-delivery is arranged when you needed to, we can resend you the package but you will need to pay for the postage again. If you choose to cancel the items, we can refund the amount for the purchased items but not the postage as it has already been shipped and is totally non-refundable.
