Mashiko-ware ceramic mug by another local Mashiko potter Shigetomo OCHIAI carefully made on kick wheel using locally sourced clay and glaze from Mashiko.

This angular shaped mug is decorated with blue glaze at the middle line giving a lovely and warm feel. The smaller round handle has a thickness and as being flat It's easy to hold - it is perfect for enjoying everyday coffee or tea, any time of the day. 

Select from two colours: beige (soft orange like colour) and grey (green-ish grey)

*Each piece is uniquely and completely made by hand, it varies slightly in colour and size and may feature small markings from the making process.

Shigetomo OCHIGAI is a Mashiko based potter who creates pottery all on kick wheel. Originally from Miyazaki (Kyushu), Ochiai studied Print Making (Degree of Fine Art) at Musashino Art University in Tokyo, then moved to Mashiko to enroll into the Mashiko Pottery Training Center. He has been apprenticing to a master potter while creating his own pieces in his studio since 2014.

We visit the artist studio and pick up all the pieces ourselves (sometimes they would drop them in) in person. We are excited to be introducing Shigetomo Ochiai's work to the world through UGUISU.


Orders are shipped from Japan using Japan Post mail services or Yamato Transport/UPS.

Returns Policy

We will only provide a refund in the event of damaged or defective items that we cannot replace. If you wish to return or exchange an item you must first contact us within 7 days of arrival by email at hello [at]

Pre-ordered or Backordered items, sale or discounted items can not be returned.

We will not be able to accept return or exchange of items if contacted after 7 days of arrival, so please make sure to open the package and check the contents as soon as the package arrives.

All customers are responsible for shipping costs as well as duties on all returned items. We can not refund shipping if the package has already been shipped.

When the package for your order gets returned to us after no re-delivery is arranged when you needed to, we can resend you the package but you will need to pay for the postage again. If you choose to cancel the items, we can refund the amount for the purchased items but not the postage as it has already been shipped and is totally non-refundable.
