Hanafukin Kitchen Cloth {White}

A longtime favorite at UGUISU since 2011, Hanafukin is a timeless kitchen cloth loved for its simple beauty, versatility, and exceptional functionality.

Created by Nakagawa, a historic Japanese company founded in Nara in 1716, Hanafukin brings traditional craftsmanship into modern everyday life. It is made from traditional kaya, a lightweight cotton fabric that was traditionally used for mosquito netting in Nara Prefecture, Japan.

Highly absorbent, breathable, and quick to dry, kaya fabric is ideal for everyday kitchen use. Its generous 58 × 58 cm size makes it versatile for drying dishes, food preparation, wiping surfaces, or even as a hand towel. Fold it for greater absorbency or unfold it to dry quickly between uses.

Finished with a light starch coating, Hanafukin feels crisp when new but gradually becomes softer and more supple with every wash. Designed to be used for years, it can eventually be repurposed as a cleaning cloth, making it a truly long-lasting everyday essential.

The classic white Hanafukin is individually wrapped in beautifully patterned paper inspired by treasures preserved in the Shōsō-in Repository, making it ready to give as a thoughtful gift.

CARE INSTRUCTIONS

・Rinse thoroughly in water or lukewarm water before first use to remove the starch finish.
・Oxygen-based bleach may be used.
・Do not use fabric softener.
