Sashiko Fabric Runner [B] - sold out
Pickup currently unavailable
This fabric runner is beautifully crafted from Japanese vintage textiles, featuring meticulously hand-stitched sashiko embroidery by ITOTSUZURI.
The sashiko embroidery on this piece features a combination of several traditional patterns: Masuzashi, Hana-Juji-zashi, Jizashi, and double Kakinohana-zashi.
Masuzashi symbolizes a wish for abundant harvests, while the Kakinohana (persimmon flower) pattern is embroidered with hopes for fertility and prosperity, as the flowers rarely go to waste, with nearly all becoming fruit.
The boro technique has been applied to a small section of the front side and a larger part on the backside, which is a traditional Japanese textile technique of patching and mending worn fabric with sashiko stitching, creating unique, layered patterns to strengthen the fabric and add decorative elements. The backside features aizome indigo-dyed vintage fabric, giving it a lovely and timeless feel.
The fabric runner is perfect for use on a table or other furniture, such as a chest or sideboard. It can also be enjoyed as wall art.

WAHT IS SASHIKO?
*Sashiko is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery/stitching which dates back to the Edo period (1603–1867) - a technique that was born out of practical necessity in northern Japan where many people were extremely poor and winters were too harsh for cotton to grow. To extend the lifespan of clothes, a worn-out piece was stitched with layers of old cloth to increase strength with this durable embroidery.
To learn more about Sashiko we highly recommend SASHIKO BOOK
