Kei Nakamura Bamboo Tray [SAKU]

This unique and beautiful "unwoven" tray is meticulously handcrafted by bamboo craft artist Kei Nakamura in Oita. It is designed to highlight the inherent beauty of bamboo without weaving. Featuring a double-layer design, with the upper layer floating above, it changes the shadow and impression depending on the placement or angle.

Although it may not be as strong as woven versions, it is robust enough for holding small items such as paper napkins, eyewear, or smartphones.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Originally from Tochigi, Kei Nakamura studied bamboo craft in Beppu, Oita, known for its traditional bamboo artistry. After mastering the traditional woven bamboo crafting, he was charmed by the idea of "unwoven baskets" and started crafting his unique style of bamboo craft that is not actually "woven". After an apprenticeship under a master artisan, Kei established his own studio in 2022. Since then, he has received several accolades, including the Grand Prix for the Japan Cultural Award. His creations aim to convey the beauty of bamboo in every piece.
