Sashiko Maekake Apron
Pickup currently unavailable
This Sashiko Maekake apron is a true masterpiece, featuring meticulously hand-stitched Sashiko embroidery on the front. The design incorporates a combination of traditional patterns such as Sugizashi, Yabanezaashi, Kome-no-hana, and Ganzezashi, creating a stunning and intricate visual. The patterns are arranged like a collage, inviting you to get lost in the delicate details, making this apron both a functional and artistic piece.
Completely hand-crafted by ITOTSUZURI, this piece takes two months to complete. The artist cherishes each stitch, taking time to connect with the fabric in intimate moments, as if conversing with it stitch by stitch.
The boro technique has been applied to some small parts on the backside, using Japanese vintage indigo-dyed fabric. Boro is a traditional Japanese textile technique of patching and mending worn fabric with sashiko stitching, creating unique, layered patterns that strengthen the fabric while adding decorative elements.
This sashiko maekake apron would be a truly special piece to enjoy as a fashion item or as a work of art, beautifully displayed on the wall to enhance any interior.

WAHT IS SASHIKO?
*Sashiko is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery/stitching which dates back to the Edo period (1603–1867) - a technique that was born out of practical necessity in northern Japan where many people were extremely poor and winters were too harsh for cotton to grow. To extend the lifespan of clothes, a worn-out piece was stitched with layers of old cloth to increase strength with this durable embroidery.
