One-of-a-kind, exquisitely crafted drawstring bag – Kinchaku Bag – meticulously hand-stitched with beautiful sashiko embroidery by ITOTSUZURI.
Each side features a different design: one side is fully embroidered with the intricate Masuzashi pattern, while the other showcases the Hanabishi pattern – a floral motif formed by diamond shapes, symbolizing prosperity and good health.
Masuzashi is a traditional Japanese pattern featuring a simple design of interconnected squares. In this design, safflower (benibana) motifs are delicately stitched within the squares.
During the Edo period, when safflower production was at its peak, it was highly valued as one of the two major dyeing materials. Safflowers cultivated in the Shonai Mogami region were shipped across the country.
Japanese vintage aizome (indigo-dyed) boro fabric is used to create these pouches and exquisite sashiko embroidery work has been so carefully stitched on both sides. Boro is a traditional Japanese textile technique of patching and mending worn fabric with sashiko stitching, creating unique, layered patterns to strengthen the fabric and add decorative elements.
This medium-sized bag is perfect for carrying small items such as a phone, wallet, cosmetics, and more.

WAHT IS SASHIKO?
*Sashiko is a type of traditional Japanese embroidery/stitching which dates back to the Edo period (1603–1867) - a technique that was born out of practical necessity in northern Japan where many people were extremely poor and winters were too harsh for cotton to grow. To extend the lifespan of clothes, a worn-out piece was stitched with layers of old cloth to increase strength with this durable embroidery.
To learn more about Sashiko we highly recommend SASHIKO BOOK
