Itaya Craft Woven Horse {Large}
Pickup currently unavailable
Itaya Craft is a traditional craft from Kakunodate in Akita Prefecture, northern Japan, with over 200 years of history. Rooted in farming communities, it began as a winter side business, primarily focused on creating essential farm tools like winnowing baskets and scoops. The craft involves skillfully whittling thin strips of locally grown Itaya maple (Itaya-kaede) and weaving them together, with most of the work done by hand.
Today, Itaya Craft also includes delightful creations such as the "Itaya Uma" horse, a popular folk toy cherished for its symbolic good fortune. The horse and other items showcase the deep, natural tones of Itaya maple’s pristine white bark, blending rustic tradition with modern appeal. Craftsman Mr. Sato carries on this heritage, crafting each piece with care and a passion for sharing the timeless elegance of Itaya maple work.
The large size Itaya Horses are added to the Crafts of Akita collection at Uguisu!
The large Itaya Woven Horses are lovely as decorations on the shelf or on the wall.
