Yabase Clay Doll {Horse} White
Pickup currently unavailable
Yabase Doll figurine is a traditional folk toy from Akita. Though this traditional toy had once been almost lost, a group of local volunteers formed the Association for Conveying Yabase Dolls, reviving it based on the original molds.
This one represents the horse of the Chinese zodiac, and it is a white version of the original red horse.
Each horse is carefully handcrafted and the final details are done with hand-painting, so expect slight variations to each piece.

ABOUT YABASE DOLLS
The Yabase Doll is a cherished traditional folk toy originating from Akita Prefecture, in northern Japan. These simple, handmade clay figures have been produced in the Yabase area since the mid-Edo period (1603-1867) and symbolize good fortune. Around 90 varieties of these dolls were once crafted by artisans, each with its own charm.
However, in 2014, the passing of Tomo Michikawa, the last remaining artisan, threatened this 200-year-old tradition. In response, a group of Yabase Doll enthusiasts formed the "Yabase-ningyo Densho no Kai" (Association for Conveying Yabase Dolls) to preserve and revive this cultural heritage. Through their efforts, they continue to create new dolls while safeguarding the legacy of the old.
