A set of postcards with carefully selected nine designs from the "Hana-Kurabe" (literally translates to "Comparison of Flowers") series by Shibata Zeshin, a renowned lacquer artist and painter who was popular during the late Edo and Meiji periods.
These beautiful designs have been crafted into postcards, offering a new version with a refreshed selection and updated designs from what we had before. This collection captures the essence of Zeshin's artistry, showcasing his exquisite work in a charming and collectible format.
Shibata Zeshin (1807-1891), a famous and revolutionary Japanese painter and lacquerer of the late Edo period and early Meiji era who worked with Haibara Naojiro, the third president of HAIBARA, in various opportunities. The series "Hana Kurabe" ("Comparison of Flowers") initially made for HAIBARA has been a long-time seller of HAIBARA and Zeshin had often presented his designs for this long established washi dealer of Nihombashi, Tokyo who has over 200 years of history.
