








Handmade Washi Sukikomi Envelopes

Sets of beautiful and delicate washi envelopes with flowers and leaves handcrafted using traditional sukikomi techniques now available just by envelopes from the box set.
Envelopes have five different local plants enfolded in the special paper: igusa (rash), momiji (Japanese maple), nanohana (flower of canola), benibana (safflower) and ajisai (hydrangea). You can use your favorite pens to write on these paper -fountain pen, brush pen, ballpoint pen, etc.
Washi are Japanese traditional paper, traditionally they have been made all with hand. Washi paper, even the finished product, can be stirred up with water and can be recrafted into different shapes afresh. When the materials were scarce goods before the early modern period, paper were commonly recrafted after use for recycling.

The maker Nao Washi Paper with over 300 years of history in washi paper making, discovers new values in washi paper that fits in today's life styles by "recrafting" techniques and knowledges that have been passed down as traditions just as the characteristics of the washi paper.
Nao Washi Paper is a handmade washi paper studio in Nao, Saga prefecture in Kyushu that does all the procedures required for paper making, from growing mulberry trees -one of the materials for making washi paper.
