Oval Box BLACK SERIES #2
Shaker oval boxes from IFUJI BOXMAKER, a woodcraft tablewares and homewares brand by a Japanese designer and craftsman Masashi Ifuji. Mr Ifuji started making these classic oval boxes (or pantry boxes) in 2005 using the original templates and traditional techniques used by The Shakers which they had used since the 18th century. These boxes are all made by hand, ensuring their unique characteristics - Mr. Ifuji's creations are pure perfection.
This new Black Series is called Sando-kuro, literally translates as "three times black" - it is the technique used for dying traditional kimono textile to achieve the beautifully deep and matte black finish created by applying vegetable dyes multiple of times. Unlike painted finish, it gives a nice and smooth look and the colour continues even in the interior of each box making the contents of the box look extra beautiful and special.
This listing is for size #2, it is a good size to keep small items, tea bags, etc.
The Shakers used oval boxes for sewing and quilting notions and for kitchen dry goods and today their uses are unlimited.
To maintain, gently rub the box with soft dry cloth to get the beautiful shine. Keep out of direct sunlight.
