Handwoven rattan trivets created by a young Japanese crafter/artist Moe Watanabe. They come in two colours, lighter one uses new rattan and the darker one uses aged rattan material. They would make great wall decorations too.
Moe while living in the country where she went to university she was introduced to many older people who were making everyday handcrafts using natural materials sourced locally and using traditional techniques and that inspired her to start going into the mountains to find materials to make crafts, mostly akebia vines and walnut tree barks.
Rattan is a new material Moe experiments with, which is not something she obtains herself from nature but it gives a new look that shows lightness in the weaving patterns she creates based on the Japanese traditional tying 'musubi' techniques.
