Straw Trivet Misumi (Triangle)
Beautifully handcrafted straw trivets woven from rice straw by skilled artisans in Tohoku, northern Japan using traditional techniques combined with contemporary designs.
Misumi directly translates to "Three Corner" is a triangle shape. There are two sizes available, Medium and Small. These trivets are thick and durable so they are perfect for heavy pans and pots. Small tea pots may not be so stable on these mats but work better with item that are larger than the trivet.
For the colour, you can choose from Natural and Black.
Black (Shikoku) is made with special rice Shikoku-mai (directly translates to black-purple rice) which is a rare kind of straw that has much more black-purple organic pigment making the crafted works unique with beautiful colouring.
Straw crafts have been in a part of everyday living in Japan from the ancient time as necessity tools or as decorations and sacred purposes. Rice have always been grown for our essential everyday food and after harvesting rice, straw was used to craft items, and after being used or worshipped rice straw always got returned to soil.
