Mini ceramic/porcelain plates are called mamezara (literally translates to 'bean plate' - tiny things are called 'mame' = bean) and they are used a lot in everyday life in Japan. 
Mamezara are great to use for dipping sauce, spices, serving tiny portion of food, as cutlery rests on the table, or to put small jewelry or other little things. Designed by Toraneko Bon Bon, a 'traveling restaurant', available in different colours.

Dishwasher and microwave safe.
