Guinomi Sake Cup 8A
One-of-a-kind ceramic guinomi sake cup from the new sake cups and vessels collection by Ryuichi Haga - an emerging local Mashiko potter who is known for his very unique style of creations.
Ryuichi's creations start from making trips to find and dig clay and collect rocks and stones to make his own pottery clay and glazes, to mountains and rivers from around Mashiko, a pottery town in northern Kanto region in Japan. Everything he handles to process the pottery materials - stones, ashes, etc are sourced locally - he calls his pottery "100% organic". Ryuichi's pieces are shaped on the wheel and wood-fired in the makigama kiln he hand built at the back of his studio.
Not only his pieces are all unique, but also even within each piece it has various textures and colours as you turn it around and look from different angles. Although the first impression may be slightly clunky as crudely made, Ryuichi's pottery is actually rather extraordinarily delicate as carefully examine it - it truly is interesting.
We are very excited to be introducing Ryuichi Haga's pottery from our local Mashiko to the world through Uguisu, we visit Ryuichi's studio and "hunt" for the gems - that is really what it feels like actually!
This time we have collected sake cups and vessels for you to enjoy special sake times at home, but even if you do not drink sake these can be enjoyed with other drinks or to serve nibbles, condiments or dips.
